Edward Corder, II: Edward Corder listed as one of twelve Revolutionary veterans of Burke's Garden in Lousie Leslie's Annals of Tazewell County: "Since Burke's Garden was only sparsely settled before 1800, and only comparatively young men would come to such an isolated place, still in danger of Indian attack in the 1790's, there were few Revolutionary War veterans." Sworn in Capt. McCorkle's Company of Montgomery County (Virginia) Sept. 6, 1777. Listed for the Montgomery County (Virginia) Militia April 1781. No DAR or SAR number which means he was not listed as a Patriot Ancestor by someone who has applied for membership.
• Benjamin Oney (Olney): Listed on U.S., Revolutionary Rolls, 1775-1783: Benjn Oney, 14 Jun 1777, Continental Troops, Battalion, Private. SAR P-263265 : Drummer in Captain Jeremiah Burrough's Company of the Battalion of Forces commanded by Colonel Seth Warner from Jan 11, 1777 until the end of the Revolutionary War; served at Saratoga, Bennington, Fort Stark and Fort George. DAR A215887: PAID SUPPLY TAX, 1783, WASHINGTON CO PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX, 1782-1805.
• Matthew H. French: "Matthew French and his eldest son, John, were American soldiers in our war for independence, and served in Colonel William Preston's battalion of Montgomery County militia, of which Joseph Cloyd was Major, and Thomas Shannon the Captain of the company to which the Frenches were attached. They were with their company in the battle of Wetzell's Mills, March 6th, 1781, and again at Guilford Court House, on the 15th of the same mon." SAR: P-162209: Private under Colonel William Preston's Battalion of Montgomery Co. VA. Their Major was Joseph Cloyd and Thomas Shannon was their Captain. Matthew swore his allegiance to Capt Cloyd's Co. 12 Sep 1777. DAR: A042489: CAPT. CLOYD, SIGNED OATH OF ALLEGIANCE, 1778. The Matthew French Chapter, DAR, erected a monument Oct, 1931 at the Boyd (Old French) Cemetery (37°17'24.1"N 80°54'07.4"W), Wolf Creek, Giles County, VA.
